The Festival for Good
"Developing social entrepreneurship is a bold initiative to progressively shift from relying on charitable relief to creating systemic solutions," said Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin.
Festivals have been become a common fixture in Singapore’s event calendar in recent years, with themed programmes taking various segments of the nation by storm for a weekend or few weeks at one go. The Festival for Good, which is taking place this weekend opposite one-north MRT station, is the first ever dedicated platform that unites the community of social entrepreneurs in Singapore, to celebrate their determination, creativity and passion to do good and meet societal challenges head-on through their businesses. This festival would showcase an event line-up and pop up stores that aim to motivate the public to be #PartoftheGood movement, besides the usual performances, shopping and food items that accompany each extravaganza.
I took a trip down to the ongoing pop-up store at Naiise@Orchard Gateway a few days ago to check out some social enterprises’ products that aimed to inspire and at the same time, showcase the skills of the less privileged members in our society. Here are some of the items that caught my eye during the trip. Be sure to look out for them, alongside other social enterprises, at the pop-up market within Timbre+ and Ace Ideation Centre if you’re heading down to the festival later today and tomorrow!
Hand-stitched leather accessories by ONE+ONE, which provides employment opportunities to the less fortunate and equips them with skills to make a living.
Maker kits for up-cycling by Sustainable Living Lab, which aims to build a sustainable future through community building, technology experimentation and social innovation.
Baked delicacies by Flourish Culinary, which provides meaningful employment to graduates from special education schools.
If you wish to find out more about the wide range of activities happening over at The Festival for Good, please visit the festival website for further updates. Be sure to register for their fringe activities, such as a leather crafting workshop by Lienstudio, as well as check out other performances and fashion show! #BePartoftheGood #FestivalforGood
