SilkAir offered non-SilkAir passengers an opportunity to experience the little joys of flying with their recent #LittleJoysMatter campaign.

Everyone knows that when they travel budget, there’s definitely some compromise. You’ll not enjoy the creature comforts that most full-service airlines offer their passengers and basically, you trade all that for an affordable price tag on your flight. But what if for just a little bit more, you could enjoy your flight with all the little joys that make all the difference? SilkAir, Singapore’s regional airline, wanted spread the joys of flying to other non-SilkAir passengers – the very folks who would really need some added entertainment and enjoyment during their flights.

They launched a very special activation earlier in the month in conjunction with their #LittleJoysMatter campaign and approached passengers flying to Singapore on other airlines by presenting them with a nifty entertainment “Joy Pack” disguised as a small box of chocolates – an innovative portable screen loaded with 30 minutes of lively and engaging content (local comedy, Spouse for House, an Mr Bean cartoon short and a travel infotainment programme). Here’s what happened!

So what are the 7 little joys that SilkAir provides that makes flying more enjoyable?

1. SilkAir Studio for quality on-flight entertainment

Before I ever experienced inflight entertainment on a full service airline, I had no idea what I was missing out on! But now I know how short a few hours can feel, once I’m plugged in and engaged by movies and my favourite television dramas and variety programmes!

SilkAir Studio is SilkAir’s wireless entertainment system that allows passengers to access an array of entertainment content from their own smart devices through WiFi – without any charges. Yes, that means you can whip up your iPad, Samsung tablet, OPPO phone or even laptop, for instance, and just start streaming an exciting new blockbuster hit, short features and even chart-topping music.

Flying Business-class for more than two hours? Even better. You can request for tablets to use during the duration of you flight. All this at no additional cost. Sweet.

2. 30KG Baggage Allowance

We ladies need our baggage allowance. 30kg is pretty ideal for all our outfit changes, skincare, makeup and not forgetting any shopping and gifts that we’ll be lugging back from our holiday destination! The worst nightmare for any holiday is having to worry about exceeding baggage allowances! 30KG is if you’re flying economy. If you’re on Business-class? That’s 40KG for you.

3. Delicious In-Flight Meals

No more worrying about going hungry (or forking out extra for in-flight meals) during flights. One of the benefits of flying on a full service airline is that in-flight meals are included in your flight. SilkAir offers both oriental and western menu items.

4. Through Check-In Service

If you’ve got to get onto a connecting flight, save yourself the hassle of collecting your baggage at the airport you’re transiting at and just have your baggage through checked-in from your country of origin to destination country. When you’re rushing for a connecting flight, this can be a real lifesaver.

5. A Reliable Flight Schedule

SilkAir promises reliability, punctuality, efficiency and safety. SilkAir also touts itself as the most awarded regional airline and I guess, I’ll have to let the awards speak for themselves.

6. Ability to Earn KrisFlyer Miles

Being able to earn KrisFlyer miles is definitely a strong point here. After all, this is one frequent flyer programme that has been designed to really reward those who love to travel and isn’t limited to just earning miles while flying.

There are so many different ways to build up those KrisFlyer miles with 30 world-class partners (including Star Alliance airlines like All Nippon Airways or ANA, EVA Air and Thai Airways).

Miles can also be earned from non-airline partners (most popular ones would be with credit cards and car rentals just to name a few). So being able to earn KrisFlyer miles when flying on SilkAir? That’s pretty darn awesome.

7. Online Check-Ins

Simple and easy. You can even skip the queue if you haven’t got any baggage. I’m sure most of us are familiar with the online check-in drill. You can select your seat, complete your check-in online and print your boarding passes before heading to the airport. That saves you time from arriving at the airport super early (over 2 hours in advance). If you’re on an early morning flight – this can be such a relief.

Online check-in and printing of boarding pass are available for confirmed bookings, 48 to 2 hours prior to flight departure.
