Jones the Grocer 2.0
The recently revamped Jones the Grocer now offers artisanal products and dishes in their Dempsey and Mandarin Gallery outlets!
Now where do I start about Jones the Grocer 2.0? This restaurant, which offers artisan products and cuisine, looks distinctly different from its former self as it underwent an overhaul by its new owner, the L Capital Singapore. Jones the Grocer now carries a wide collection of products that cannot be found anywhere else in Singapore, from unique chocolate flavours (we especially love the idea of chocolate coffee beans, talk about a caffeine rush!) to premium ingredients and sauces to elevate your home cooked dish to a luxury item (think coconut oil and white truffle honey). Thinking about the likely out-of-reach prices for these high end products? Fear not, Jones has stocked their shelves with 3 categories of each product – the best, Jones’ rendition and a more affordable option. If you’re not much of a cook and was just thinking of revisiting this restaurant to try its new flavours, why not consider these dishes?
Start your meal right by ordering a Passionfruit and Lemongrass Jones Cordial ($7.50++), which is an Australian fruit cordial served with sparkling antipodis water from New Zealand. It has a vaguely sour but refreshing taste, though not as overpowering as the Lime and Kaffar Lime as well as the Blood Orange and Cardamom versions.
Get your hands on a 3-item Cheese & Charcuterie Board ($35++), and choose your platter according to what tickles your tastebuds. We’d personally recommend the Stilton English Blue Cheese for its rich and creamy texture, along with the flavorful Mortadella (on the wooden board, top left) and melt-in-your-mouth Veal Lyoner (on the wooden board, top right).
Jones has the first ever walk-in cheese room in Singapore that houses 100 varieties of cheese in its repertoire. On the other hand, an in-house butcher from Swiss Butchery prepares the cold cooked meats to suit local preferences, except for the Mortadella. If you’re interested in buying charcuterie for the festive celebrations, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the Christmas specialty cuts from Jones and Swiss Butchery!
Order the Oriental Crispy Duck ($26++) for your starter. The tender meat was skillfully cooked through, decorated with a bed of mesclun salad, shimeji mushroom, russet potato and cherry tomatoes before the entire dish is generously drizzled with plum dressing. Not that we’re complaining!
Since you’ll most likely be half full from the Cheese and Charcuterie Board as well as the Oriental Crispy Duck by this point, why not get the slightly smaller main, jones Classic Wagyu Burger With Truffle Fries ($26++). The burger is constructed with an Australian wagyu beef patty, bacon, melted gruyere cheese, truffle mayo, bois boudran sauce, pickles, hot English mustard, caramelized onions before sandwiched by two soft and fragrant house made brioche bun!
How can we forget desserts? Go for the Coconut Panna Cotta ($14++) and just indulge in the mango coulis and fresh mango that perfectly complements the smooth coconut pudding.
