Maternity Shoot with FEElim Photography at St Regis Singapore
I was very hesitant to do a maternity shoot initially as I did not feel like I look like my best. How could I? I was at my heaviest with almost 20kg weight gain and I did not have a partner to take with me so it would just be a solo maternity shoot. Me, my belly and I.
With much encouragement from my girlfriends, I decided to do a maternity shoot to immortalise this moment and the first person I could think of for this shoot was Samantha from FEElim Photography. We had previously collaborated with her for our Cambelles 2014 shoot and it was a great experience from the start till the end. The photo concept development was a breeze as usual and I had communicated with her on Whatsapp along with Carrie and Mayie (who did my makeup). We decided on a few outfits and the simple and natural makeup. It was also a blessing in disguise that I had booked the Lady Astor room at St Regis Singapore so we managed to escape the haze. The spacious room, lavishly decorated with Jim Thompson silk throw pillows and luxurious marble bathroom, had plenty of natural sunlight which provides plenty of photo opportunity.
Nothing captures moments better than film and Samantha manages to capture these special moments that are difficult to replicate with digital. I’m the most unnatural model plus my insecurity of looking like a beached whale made it worse but Samantha coaxes me to talk to my friends who are present or just stroke my belly and talk to my baby so that I would be comfortable and not notice the camera on me.
Each photo is carefully framed before she presses the shutter. I have received nothing but compliments for the shoot. I loved how distinctive it was compared to the conventional maternity shoots in a studio and she really captured the essence of how i felt. A mother to be that is anticipating the arrival of a little bundle of joy whom she has not met but started loving for the past 9 months. This little bundle of joy that motivates her to not give up on life despite facing the challenges and reminds her that she is never alone.
Even though you can only view the photos when she develops the film and processes them, I had received the photos within two weeks of the shoot which is really efficient and no different from photographers who shoot on digital. She starts working on them really quickly and sends occasional sneak peek of the photos just a few days after the shoot.
I can’t wait to engage Samantha for my newborn shoot with Samantha once the baby is out and future mother daughter shoots!
