Trapped.SG: How will you survive?
How well would you and your best friends fare in a zombie apocalypse? Lostcompass and her 'besties' take on the zombie themed escape room challenge at Trapped.SG.
“So we stood in partial darkness looking around aimlessly, trying to comprehend how six people who would consider themselves to be fairly smart, were still struggling to piece together these clues. One of the six walks backwards and nearly trips over a stray item (typical of a zombie apocalypse scenario), muttering under her breath, causing the rest to turn around and suppress a giggle. At that very moment, the low drone like hum in the room gets a tad louder and everyone unanimously look up to see the clock ticking down. We are so dead….”
Welcome to the World War Z “ The Zombie Apocalypse” room at TRAPPED.SG.
For the benefit of those of you who have never been to an Escape Room set up, this is how it works. First, you round up a few of your good friends and head down to a TRAPPED.SG outlet (Do make a reservation first). There you will be briefed on the scenario and the ‘mission’ you are about to embark on. You will then be ushered into a room and your task is to find the missing pieces, piece them together and attempt to escape from the room. Sounds simple enough?
Interestingly the zombie apocalypse at TRAPPED.SG was not my first escape room adventure. However, it is the first one in which my friends and I have failed to escape from. (It was a really difficult room).
Nevertheless, it did not take away from the fun of actually partaking in this activity. It is important to note that escape rooms are insanely fun and it brings out the best and the worst in your adventure buddies.
The zombie apocalypse scenario is one that is set in the dystopian future of 2050. The world has been overrun by zombies and you and your buddies need to escape from a soon to be zombie infested warehouse.
One of the first few things I realized after stepping into the room was that, it is good to bring along with you, friends who have darn good eyesight. That is an indispensable weapon to fight zombies in this case. The second thing I realized was that, unlike some the previous escape rooms that I had been to, the zombies here required you to be on top form, specifically the functioning of your brain has to be at its peak. So perhaps, it was not the greatest of ideas to embark on this game on a Wednesday evening when the best friends were mostly exhausted from work. As a result, we had used up three ‘lifeline’ phone calls that were allowed, in order to get clues. It was a tad frustrating at times.
As we collectively attempted to battle our way out, we were constantly reminded of each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We poked fun at each other, cracked our brains together and sighed in mock exasperation every time we encountered yet another dead end. We tried to recall each other’s strengths and attempted to capitalize on that to solve the various clues. My favorite part was the look of incredulousness we would give each other, every time we realized that an answer was staring at us in the face, the whole time. All in all, it was a great bonding session for a group of friends who have been ‘besties’ for about a decade now.
Another really nice thing about the whole adventure is that when you finally exit, tired and embarrassed at your lack of ability to solve clues, the staff give you an opportunity to take a silly group photo with some cool props. In this, we managed to catch a snapshot of boys being well…boys..
