This Bistro is the Best Thing to Happen to Your Weekend
If you must have your Instagram Brunch fix, let's just say we've found you a place you'll love to visit on a weekend.
I’d hate to oversell a place and then get you disappointed when you decide to head there, but I have to put it out there that Atmosphere Bistro at East Coast Park’s newest development, Parkland Green, is going to be the best thing to happen to your weekend.
Seaside dining in open-air or indoor seating, relaxing ambience, darn delicious brunch items, ridiculously photogenic beer (yes you heard me) and 3D latte art by one of the most skilled baristas you’ll set your eyes on in Singapore, Atmosphere Bistro is just the place you’ve been looking for. Your Instagram will thank you for making a trip there.
Indoor air-conditioned dining area
Atmosphere Bistro only opened October 2014 and already they’re making a name for themselves, particularly on Instagram for Serene Foo, their Head Barista’s amazing Latte Art creations, in stunning 3D no less and really special Kirin Frozen Beer, which resembles a icy cool favourite flavoured slushie beer. It’s good and the crowd just tells you that they’ve got this whole bistro business worked out right.
They’re doing so well being pretty well-received by heartlanders and bloggers alike. It was time to up the challenge and the owner of Atmosphere Bistro, Mr Chiam Wee Leong, decided maybe it was time to shake things up a bit. What better way than with a brunch menu?
Munching on Brunch
There’s isn’t a long list of brunch items to choose from, but it’s enough. They’ve got a bunch of sandwiches and standard breakfast-type fare. But I think when you think about how you’ll probably be filling your tummy with some good coffee from Atmosphere Bistro, you’d close an eye to the limited menu. Over here, the coffee is the star and the food just the supporting cast.
Order using an iPad provided
Simply use the iPad provided to make your order. Not to worry, there is still service here. Your food will be busked to your table by warm and friendly staff members. Sent in the food orders, had a short chat and then in no time, our food was served.
Ham & Cheese Croissant Melt
What better way to start a day than with croissants? The Ham & Cheese Croissant Melt ($14.80) is so savoury and light. The croissants are delightfully buttery and flakey and the classic combination of ham and cheese, an instant winner.
Turkey Ham Eggs Benedict
Looks may be deceiving. This Turkey Ham Eggs Benedict ($16.80) may look ordinary, but the eggs are done just right with the yolk having a beautifully runny consistency, the turkey ham absolutely tasty and boy oh boy was that buttered toast a dream come true. The bread crumbles almost like a cake. Wonderful, wonderful texture made it such a joy to eat.
Also of worthy mention are the Mini Burgers ($11.80) are such fun to eat and of course the chicken patties are juicy and slathered in some sweet barbecue sauce. What I found interesting was that both the top and bottom bun are generously covered in sesame seeds.
I’ve tried a number of churros from different places and I’ve found that most are usually crisp on the outside, soft and gooey on the inside. The Churros Bites ($8.80) are quite different in the sense that it is completely crispy all the way through. I love the crunch. It’s really addictive and the dips of chocolate and caramel are a real treat. The chocolate sauce is a little drippy and not a rich chocolate I expected, but nevertheless rather yummy. At it’s price, this is also a really good steal.
Atmosphere Molten Lava Cake
Molten chocolate lava flowing from the fluffy cake
The Atmosphere Molten Lava Cake ($11.80) has a rich chocolatey flavour and is accompanied with a lightly vanilla flavoured ice cream. This dessert is perfect to end off a meal (that likely culminates in another cup of coffee). It’s not too sweet and yet it will still satisfy sweet tooth cravings because of how dark and rich the molten chocolate lava is. By far this is one of the better Molten Lava Cakes.
Serene with her works of art
Add $1 for 3D Latte Art
The real highlight of Atmosphere Bistro is the coffee by Head Barista, Serene Foo. There aren’t many places where you can get decent latte art, let alone 3D latte art in Singapore and Atmosphere Bistro is one of those places.
Whether it’s a cute bear or cat you’d like peeking out of your coffee, Serene will get it done to put a smile on your face. Don’t feel bad to sip up those cute animals. Serene definitely doesn’t mind and in fact she encourages it!
“There are some reviews saying latte art is a waste of effort, but as a barista, if you can bring a smile onto someone’s face with your skill, why not put in this effort?” – Serene Foo
If you’d like to keep things simple, your coffee comes with complimentary draw art. Check out how detailed Serene’s designs are! (The perfect Totoro right there too.) We tried the Macadamia Latte ($7) and Cafe Mocha ($6.50). It only costs an extra dollar on top of your coffee to get an adorable instagram-worthy 3D latte art on your cuppa.
The Real Deal
Having a sip of Kirin Frozen Beer
If you asked me though what’s that one thing I’ll not soon forget about Atmosphere Bistro, it’s the Kirin Frozen Beer ($13). Available only at a limited handful of bars/bistros, the Kirin Frozen Beer experience is one that most ladies will find most appealing.
It comes in a number of flavours: Lime, Mango, Calpis, Cranberry and Original.
We gave the Calpis and Mango a go and boy were they thirst-quenching and so good to cool down with on a hot day!
Kirin Frozen Beer in Calpis and Mango
These hardly taste like beer and you’ll not even notice when you’ve gulped down half the glass. Dangerous? Not really. But if you’re not careful, you could be getting yourself tipsy during brunch!
