Glam Up, Spring Is Coming: Makeup Trends For 2015
Ahhh, Spring! The birds are chirping, the ice is melting, and that means it’s time to unearth floral skirts and breezy outfits from the back of your closet. So how do you put spring in your step (and incorporate it into your makeup routine)? Read on to find 5 makeup trends that are sure to have you looking glamorous and unconventional, even in an April shower.
- Try Colorful Mascara!
This look isn’t just for runway models and punk rockers. Colored mascara can surprisingly subtle depending on the shade. Pair it with a relatively neutral lip and eye shadow and you have a look that’s fresh, playful, and even work appropriate. If you’re nervous about trying the new trend, opt for purple or navy or any color closer to black and/or brown. If you’re feeling bold, lime green, pink, and yellow are great options!
- Cateye With a Twist
A subtle winged eyeliner flick is universally flattering. However, it’s become so popular that it’s lost a bit of its flair! That’s where the “reverse cat eye” comes in. Instead of lining the top, line the bottom lashes for a dramatic and new interpretation of a classic look! This is definitely striking, so save it for a spring party or girls’ night out! Use liquid liner for a more severe line, or wet an angled brush and use a dark eye shadow for a smokier version.
- Find Your Purple Lip
In the same way that there’s a red lip for everyone, there is a purple lip color that suits everyone. And remember, there are no hard or fast rules with this one. Sport the shade that makes you feel confident. Personally, I’m partial to light lavender on darker skin tones and more pigmented shades on ladies with light to olive skin. For pale girls, the lighter color can look a little washed out. But you be the judge! Expect lots of compliments!
- Lipstick as Blush
This is a great way to save space and even a little bit of money! Take your favorite lipstick–the brighter, the better–and dot some on each cheek. Blend upward, and spread it along your cheekbones. Pick a bright pink or deep red color for higher impact. If you’re unsure about heavy pigment, but still want a glowy sheen, opt for a lip balm, salve, or tinted chapstick! It will give you a youthful shine!
- Fake Some Sunkissed
Just ‘cause you’re not sun kissed doesn’t mean you can’t fake it. We go to great lengths to even out pigmentation. But sometimes, it’s just easier to fake a post-vacay glow! Take sun tanner and mix it in with your moisturizer for a subtle yet sexy Springtime tan. And if you’re feeling really bold, consider creating DIY freckles. Seriously… angel kisses can be yours for the price of a drugstore eye pencil. Take a small brown pencil and dot your nose with little beauty marks. Next take foundation, and using a beauty sponge, apply it over top! This should ensure your look is subtle and natural.
