Rachie discovers just how much the Pixel Pro Laser can improve her skin clarity and texture at Kae Clinic.

We have all tried self treatment by using pimple creams or scar remover creams that claim to work. I have tried going to a dermatologist to get antibiotics to prevent breakouts. I’m sure we have also tried facial places who ensure you that they are able to do magic to your face and remove your skins and make your skin flawless. How many of these methods actually do work? How about Medical Aesthetics? I know your hesitation all too well as I was apprehensive about medical aesthetics but do not confuse it with plastic surgery, it is nothing like that.

After trying a million and one ways to make my oily, pimply and rough skin better, I told myself why not give Kae Clinic Medical Aesthetics a shot?

Kae Clinic

Carrie and I made our way down to Kae Clinic Medical Aesthetics at Park Mall one afternoon to meet Dr Israr Wong for a face-to-face consultation to assess our skin condition and find out what treatment is suitable for us. Lucky for Carrie, her skin is not the problematic sort and she did Mild Mild Peel Facial. As for me, I knew I needed more drastic measures. Dr Israr Wong recommended that I do Pixel Pro Laser to treat acne scars, rough skin, big open pores and also for rejuvenation of dull, aging, wrinkled, loose skin. It also works on pigments, by causing the outer layers to peel off and lightening the pigments.

We had a tour around the Medical Aesthetics Clinic and it was really clean and meticulous. We also felt at ease instantly with the hues of white and blue with cream walls.

Don’t you think the Restylane Lips Pillow is so cute? You can also do fillers and botox at Kae Clinic Medical Aesthetics.

There is also a elegant dressing table for you to touch up your makeup. The thing I like about Medical Aesthetics is that the treatments are non-invasive and you could be out of the clinic in 15 to 30 minutes with a new look and there is usually no downtime. It’s like getting a haircut!

Before starting Pixel Pro Laser Treatment

Of course, to tell if the Pixel Pro Laser treatment is effective, we need to do mug shots of me without makeup. This is taken in mid December 2013 where I’ve done monthly facials for almost 2 years and changed my diet to Paleo (read more at Paleobunny.com) for 3 months. It was the best that my skin has even been but I am not happy with this.

Before Laser

I have a lot of red acne scars on my cheeks, lips and chin area because I get frequent breakouts and it is mostly hormonal. Even after having to endure painful extractions every month and cutting down on carbs and sugar, I am still getting acne over the slightest things. They appear hours after I’ve just indulged in that delicious red velvet cake or macarons. As I would be overseas for sometime or have breakouts and was not free to go for facial, I would squeeze my acne on my own. This is a bad decision! I would get deep acne scars which you can see on my cheeks and my nose.

Before Laser

Check out the bumps on my nose because of constant pricking of pimples. These scars are so difficult to conceal.

Open pores – Checked!
Bumpy skin – Checked!
Acne Scars – Checked!

That explains why I am always ashamed to go out with no makeup. I would always apply foundation and concealor before I go out and have to touch up layers over layers throughout the day. When I went out without makeup, I would be so embarrassed if someone I know bumped into me and wanted to say hi. All I wanted to do is dig a hole and bury my face there.

Before Pixel Laser

This was how bad my skin was in June 2013 before I changed my diet to Paleo. Please note that I have makeup on and my scars were still visible especially on my chin.

Carrie wanted to take a photo of Mayie and I but I was so shy because my makeup wasn’t perfect and my skin was at a terrible condition even on my 25th birthday. I had to hide my face using my Saboskirt cape.

For ladies who have to deal with acne scars, large open pores and rough skin, this is the right treatment for you. The entire treatment consists of a four-step therapy:

(1) Deep Cleansing

(2) Application of Numbing Cream

(3) Pixel Pro Laser

(4) Recovery Period

Step 1: Deep Cleansing

Deep cleansing is important for optimal performance of Pixel Pro Laser. My skin was cleansed by Kae Clinic’s therapist, Chloe who professionally cleansed my skin gently and thoroughly.

Step 2: Application of Numbing Cream

Pixel Pro Laser is tolerable even without numbing cream! With numbing cream, the Pixel Pro Pixel is like taking a nap and not feeling the slightest of pain at all. Numbing cream that is specially formulated by Kae Clinic Medical Aesthetics was applied on my face. I even joked with Chloe saying that I need to buy this numbing cream and apply it before going for facial. I hate how painful extraction is.

Numbing Cream

Cling wrap is applied on my face to maintain the freshness of my face. I am just kidding. I think it is to prevent me from touching my face out of habit. The numbing cream was left on my face for 20 minutes.

Numbing Cream

Step 3: Pixel Pro Laser

After waiting for 15 minutes for the numbing cream to take effect, it is then cleansed off and my face felt numb. I was still afraid that the Pixel Pro Laser would be painful as my skin is usually really sensitive to pain and turns red easily. I have also seen accounts of patients doing fraction CO2 Laser before and a lot of them found it difficult to withstand the pain and end up crying and never want to do it again.

Pixel Pro Laser is different from CO2 Laser as it uses a newer technology compared to the fractional CO2. It is gentle enough to use even on delicate areas of the neck, chest and hands as well as the face with little risk of infection while not compromising on the results.

Dr Israr Wong is really professional with many years of experience and gentle so I really trust him with my face. In fact, I actually went back to him and paid out of my own pocket for aesthetic work done because I was really impressed by his work. He started the procedure and I felt nothing! All the worrying for nothing. I could have fallen asleep and the procedure would be complete but I had to stay awake for Carrie to take the photos.

Kae Clinic

PIXEL™ PRO is a Erbium:YAG laser which is an ablative laser from the internationally renowned ALMA LASERS. It is called “Pixel Laser” because pre-programmed laser energy passes through the patented Pixel micro optics lens array and penetrates the skin, affecting just 15-20 percent of the surface, in a pixelated manner.

Kae Clinic

Pixel Pro Laser creates an ablative channel at the pixel area using heat without disturbing the surrounding tissue. Those micro-injured areas start the process of healing and the untreated area acts as a reservoir for rapid restoration. As collagen remodels, a fresher and more youthful appearance starts to develop. After the whole face is done, Dr Wong does some finishing touches by going over the areas that have more micro-injured areas.

My skin looks really red and raw but I assure you that I felt no pain at all. I was pleasantly surprised and would do this treatment again in a heartbeat.

I must be hoping and looking forward to my new skin when this shot was taken by Carrie.

After the treatment is completed, I was given a face mask to prevent people from looking at my very blushed face while Dr Wong gave me some tips for my recovery period. I have to stay away from sunlight and stay indoors as the top layer of my skin is very thin and more susceptible to UV damage. You need to moisturise, moisturise and moisturise! Apply as much moisturiser as possible as your skin is repairing itself and it feels really dry and sensitive. I have to avoid peeling off my dead skin and let it fall off naturally. This is because your skin is forming a new layer of skin beneath the damaged skin cells and by being itchy hands and peeling it off, you will disrupt the full formation.

After Pixel Pro Laser Must-have : Laser Rejuvenation Cell Fusion C Cream

This Stem Cell cream is very crucial and recommended by Dr Israr Wong to use as often as possible after Pixel Pro Laser. I just had to get it. This is not sponsored and I purchased it from Kae Clinic out of my own pocket. Usually I’m really hesistant about trying new products due to my sensitive skin and I already have products sent to me for reviews but I knew I had to get this if I want my skin to recover and repair well after Pixel Pro Laser.

Cell Fusion C

The texture of the cream is light and did not clog my pores. I use it after cleansing and before applying my moisturiser Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. My skin felt really dry and scaly so I had to keep applying 3 – 5 times a day.

Step 4: Recovery Period

On the second day, my red face turn brown and I just look sunburnt. I stayed home for the first three days but eventually I went out and no one realised I had rough scaly skin unless they look really closely. Now, this is your own effort to follow the steps that Dr Wong has advised. Avoid the sun, moisturise and do not pick at your dead skin cells.

After Laser

This was the fourth day. The tan shade faded off and I was able to go outdoors with no one noticing the fact that I just had Pixel Pro Laser done. I had tiny bumps on my cheek because I kept applying moisturiser and my skin is usually very oily. But those tiny bumps went away quickly so the breakout has nothing to do with Pixel Pro Laser but it was just due to my oily and dry skin.

After Recovery

One week later, I was loving my new skin. I love how my pores are so much more refined and smaller. I just couldn’t believe it as I have bad skin for the longest time. All that experimenting with dermatologists, monthly facials, endless purchase of retinol or any scar removal cream could have just been spent on Pixel Pro Laser at Kae Clinic.

After Laser

Here is how I look like with no makeup on at all and I just got up from my nap. I still have a few new acne scars on my cheek but look at the vast difference and how radiant and smoother my skin looks!

After Pixel Laser

I love the fact that I do not need to wear heavy makeup but still looked like I have bumpy and rough skin. Those days are gone! Woohoo! Now, I just put on a thin layer of Kiehl’s BB cream when I go out and love how my skin looks fresh faced. I like how it looks like I’m wearing almost no makeup at all and just a little to enhance my features. Here’s a photo of me taken when I was in a helicopter looking at the 12 Apostles in Melbourne.

Pixel Laser

Even if you notice my recent blog post like Bring Boeing Back with Silkair over the weekend, I am still having radiant and near flawless skin thanks to Kae Clinic. You can repeat the treatment every 6 weeks until you are satisfied with your skin. This reminds me that I should go for another Pixel Pro Laser session soon.

The Pixel Pro Laser costs $600 per session (ala carte price). Of course the packages are best when it comes to Pixel Pro Laser and prices can go as low as $450 per session depending on package which I would highly recommend because I am tempted to do further sessions to remove my deep acne scars. Email info@kaeclinic.sg for more information on package pricing. I’m so happy to share that The Cambelles Readers are entitled to attractive privileges! You can check with Dr Israr during consultation for the full list of benefits or email/call KAE Clinic for more details. 🙂 Just quote “The Cambelles”.
